Gold

This custom painted Magnus the Red was created as the definitive centerpiece for a high-level Thousand Sons commission, focusing on a vibrant and high-contrast color palette that captures the arcane majesty of the Crimson King.
As the ultimate leader of any Tzeentch-dedicated Warhammer 40,000 army, the model required a finish that balanced his monstrous daemonic nature with the regal elegance of a millennium-old commander.
The saturated magenta skin, wings transitioning from deep purple to bright cyan, and intricate gold ornamentation make this miniature an immediate focal point on the tabletop, ensuring exceptional visual readability among the ranks of his psychic legionaries.
Commission Painting Project: Magnus the Red Thousand Sons

For this commission painting project, the primary challenge was managing the vast surfaces of the feathered wings and muscular anatomy, ensuring smooth transitions that enhanced volume without losing color saturation.
The skin features a deep red-magenta base tone, progressively layered toward a luminous pink-flesh on the highest points of the muscle groups.
This approach gives the anatomy an almost pulsing quality, typical of a creature infused with Warp energy.
The ornamental armor, painted in a rich and brilliant gold, frames the Primarch’s body to create a sharp, luxurious contrast that defines his superior rank within the Thousand Sons faction.
Each armor plate was refined with selective washes and precise edge highlighting to clearly separate the metallic surfaces from the organic zones, maintaining the clinical sharpness that defines our miniature painting studio.
Custom Paint Scheme for the Wings of the Daemon Primarch
The wings represent the most significant visual impact of this painted Magnus the Red. The color choice follows a smooth progression starting from a velvety regal purple near the body, blending through shades of electric magenta and pink, and culminating in a brilliant cyan blue on the outer feathers.
This gradient not only references the classic colors of the Changer of Ways but also creates a visual dynamism that draws the eye toward the upper portion of the model. The golden runes engraved along the wing membranes were loaded with a warm yellow, acting as small points of light that dance against the darker purple surfaces.
The use of cold colors for the outer feathers serves to balance the dominant warm tone of the red skin, ensuring a perfect compositional equilibrium that makes this commission painting a unique display piece.
Gold Level Painting Details and Arcane Finishes
The blade and the flame erupting from the left hand add a further layer of chromatic narrative to the model. For the magical flame, we opted for a "cold fire" effect with a gradient shifting from pure white at the base to an intense cobalt blue at the tips, simulating the psychic energy of the Thousand Sons.
Smaller details, such as the central eye on the chest, the realistic bone-textured horns, and the gems embedded in the armor, were painted with glazing techniques to provide depth and a glass-like luster. These secondary elements are essential for maintaining the Gold quality of the project, ensuring that the viewer discovers new details every time they look at the miniature closely.
Even the leather elements and the white cloth of the tabard were treated with natural shading, providing visual resting points between the golden armor and the saturated skin, keeping the entire composition harmonious.

Custom Basing for Magnus the Red and Army Cohesion
The custom basing completes this painted Warhammer minis commission, anchoring the Primarch to a volcanic and corrupted terrain.
The scorched earth, rendered with dark tones and grey pigments, contrasts beautifully with the glowing lava cracks painted in orange and sulfur yellow.
This color choice for the base not only echoes the warm tones of Magnus’s skin but also provides a solid visual support that does not distract from the main model.
The rocky structure of the scenic base helps further elevate the figure, giving it a stability that communicates power and immovability on the battlefield
In a commission painted Warhammer army project, a cohesive basing style like this is essential for tying together elite units and infantry, creating a unified and professional look across the entire tabletop.
Commission Painted Daemon Primarch of Tzeentch
