Explore a fully painted StarCraft Terran Starter Set featuring Jim Raynor, Terran Marines, Marauders, Medics and a Point Defense Drone.

We recently had the pleasure of doing a Painted StarCraft Terran miniatures for Archon Studio. The models were prepared for playable demonstrations at events in the United States.

We are starting the showcase with the most recognisable human faction in StarCraft, the Terrans. The set includes Jim Raynor, Terran Marines, Marauders, Medics and a Point Defense Drone.

Although every unit has a different role, the whole force needed to feel consistent. Therefore, we used a shared colour palette, matching bases and repeated lighting effects.

Painting the StarCraft Terran Colour Scheme

The main goal was to create a coherent Terran force. However, each unit still needed its own visual identity.

Most of the army uses a classic blue Terran colour scheme. We started with deep shadows and gradually added brighter blue highlights. As a result, the large armour panels remain clear and easy to read.

In addition, we added small scratches around exposed edges, weapons and mechanical joints. Terran equipment should look practical and battle-tested. Therefore, a completely clean finish would not have suited these models.

Bright lenses and illuminated armour details provide extra contrast. Meanwhile, dark metallic components reinforce the industrial style of the army and create unique Painted StarCraft Terran set.

Painted Jim Raynor Miniature

im Raynor stands at the centre of the painted Terran Starter Set. However, we did not use the same bright blue armour as the regular infantry.

Instead, his armour received a darker and more restrained finish. Consequently, he stands out without looking disconnected from the rest of the force.

The exposed face became the main focal point. Therefore, we used warmer skin tones against the cold blue armour. Small blue lights across the suit also connect Raynor to the other Terran models.

In addition, his long rifle and raised scenic base create a distinctive silhouette. You can see more photographs in our full painted Jim Raynor miniature showcase.

Painted Terran Marines and Marauders

The Terran Marines form the largest unit in the starter set. Because of this, their colour scheme defines the overall appearance of the army.

Their powered armour was painted with deep blue shadows and clear edge highlights. As a result, each armour panel remains visible from both gaming distance and close range.

The weapons were kept dark and metallic. Meanwhile, warm visors and exposed faces create smaller focal points across the unit.

The Terran Marauders use a darker and heavier version of the same blue palette. Their armour is broader, while their weapons dominate the upper body.

For this reason, we used stronger shadows around the arms, legs and weapon systems. Brighter highlights were then added to the largest armour plates.

In addition, selected panels received subtle teal tones and controlled weathering. As a result, the Marauders feel heavier and more industrial than the regular Marines.

Despite these differences, matching colours and battlefield bases keep both units connected.

Painted Terran Medics

The Terran Medics introduce a much lighter colour scheme. Instead of blue armour, they mainly use white and cool grey tones.

However, blue panels still connect them to the rest of the force. Green weapons, shields and illuminated details provide an additional accent.

We preserved the natural transparency of the green components. Therefore, the effects remain bright and clearly visible.

Because these elements attract attention, the surrounding armour was kept relatively restrained. As a result, the models remain detailed without looking overloaded.

Painted Point Defense Drone

The Point Defense Drone combines the blue Terran armour scheme with bright transparent orange components.

The orange support, antennas and energy weapon create a strong contrast with the dark blue body of the drone. Because the effect elements were already cast in transparent material, we avoided covering them with opaque paint and instead used their natural transparency as part of the final result.

Scenic Bases for the Terran Army

The miniatures were finished with rocky battlefield bases using muted stone, patches of dry vegetation and occasional purple details.

These bases provide enough texture to frame each model without drawing attention away from the armour. Jim Raynor received a larger scenic base with raised rocks, placing him naturally in the centre of the collection.

The complete result is a painted StarCraft Terran force that remains readable during gameplay while retaining the heavy, practical and slightly worn appearance associated with Terran military equipment.
