Magnetic Movement Trays: Warhammer The Old World Silver Level
20 May 2026This project showcases a beautifully painted Grombrindal the White Dwarf, one of the most legendary characters in the Warh ammer universe. Known as the mysterious wandering champion of the Dwarfs, Grombrindal is an iconic figure closely associated with the history of Warhammer Age of Sigmar and the long legacy of the White Dwarf. This miniature was painted as a detailed character centerpiece, with strong attention given to textures, metallic finishes, and color contrast in order to highlight the rich sculpted details of the model.
The painting approach focuses on creating a visually striking display piece while maintaining the bold readability expected from a high-quality painted Warhammer miniature. Through controlled shading, layered highlights, and carefully selected color accents, the model captures both the heroic stature and the rugged warrior spirit associated with this legendary dwarf character.
Iconic White Beard and Character Detailing
One of the defining features of Grombrindal the White Dwarf is his enormous flowing white beard, which was painted using multiple layers of cool whites and subtle grey shading to create strong texture and depth. The sculpt features braided sections and layered strands that allow the highlights to catch the light naturally, emphasizing the volume and complexity of the beard.
The facial features were painted with careful attention to expression, giving the miniature a determined and battle-hardened presence. Small details such as the eyes, skin tones, and facial shadows help bring personality to the model and reinforce its role as a legendary hero miniature within the Warhammer range.
Ornate Warhammer and Metallic Craftsmanship
Grombrindal carries an impressive double-headed warhammer that serves as one of the focal points of the miniature. The weapon was painted using layered metallic tones to represent polished steel blades framed by rich gold ornamentation. At the center of the hammer sits a deep red gemstone that adds a vibrant accent to the weapon and contrasts beautifully with the cooler metallic tones.
The handle and decorative metalwork were finished with warm bronze and gold hues, giving the weapon a sense of ancient craftsmanship. This type of detailed metallic work is essential when painting character miniatures for Warhammer Age of Sigmar, as the weapons often serve as visual anchors for the entire composition.
Cloak, Armor, and Dwarven Textures
The model features a dynamic red cloak flowing behind the character, adding motion and dramatic contrast to the overall composition. The cloak was painted using deep red tones with brighter highlights along the folds, creating a sense of movement and depth that complements the sculpt.
Beneath the cloak, the armor includes a mix of metallic plates, leather straps, and layered textures that were carefully shaded and highlighted to maintain visual clarity
