Custom Painted Varanguard – Slaves to Darkness Commission Painting for Warhammer Age of Sigmar
18 May 2026This painted Magnus the Red was completed as a high-end commission painting project for a Warhammer 40,000 Thousand Sons army. As the Daemon Primarch of Tzeentch, this model is designed to dominate the tabletop, and our goal was to create a vibrant, visually striking centerpiece while maintaining clean execution and durable finish suitable for gaming.
The sculpt features expansive wings, detailed armor panels, ornate gold trim, and dynamic magical effects. Every surface was treated with layered blends and controlled highlights to ensure clarity from both close viewing and gaming distance.
Custom Paint Scheme Magnus the Red – Pink, Blue and Gold Contrast
The custom paint scheme is built around a saturated magenta-to-purple skin tone, smoothly blended across the musculature to emphasize the anatomy without harsh transitions. Subtle shading deepens the recesses, while controlled highlights along raised muscles and edges preserve definition under strong lighting.
The wings are the focal point of this painted Magnus the Red. Each feather transitions from vibrant pink near the body into rich blue toward the tips, creating a dramatic gradient across the full wingspan. The upper wing sections include freehand eye motifs in bright yellow-green tones, adding a distinct Tzeentch visual identity without overwhelming the composition.
The armor combines polished silver panels with rich gold trim. The gold elements are carefully shaded to avoid excessive shine, maintaining a premium finish rather than a reflective metallic glare. Blue gemstones and decorative inlays are picked out with crisp highlights to add contrast and visual rhythm across the chest and leg armor.
Painted Warhammer 40,000 Miniature – Weapons and Effects
The blade features a cool blue power effect along the cutting edge, transitioning from darker tones near the spine to lighter highlights toward the edge. Fine line details reinforce the arcane energy aesthetic without cluttering the surface.
In his outstretched hand, the magical flame effect is rendered in soft blue tones with lighter highlights toward the upper curves. The finish is semi-gloss to subtly differentiate it from the matte skin and armor surfaces, enhancing realism and depth.
Lava Base for Painted Magnus the Red
The base is sculpted as cracked volcanic ground with glowing lava fissures. Warm orange and yellow tones radiate from the cracks, contrasting strongly with the cool blues and magentas of the model. The glow is concentrated in recesses to simulate internal heat, while the rocky surfaces remain dark and textured.
The clean black rim frames the composition and ensures this painted Warhammer model integrates seamlessly into a display cabinet or competitive tabletop army.
